"Cooley Anemia Foundation - Nuvision Medicenters NY"

One Patient Makes a Difference with the Cooley's Anemia Foundation
You might not know the name Johnny Sialiano, but you probably know Goumba Johnny is. You know him from the afternoon show he does on WKTU. Did you know that Johnny and Nuvision Medicenters Manhattan both share a commitment to community service?
In 2002, Johnny was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Cooley's Anemia Foundation (CAF). The Cooley's Anemia Foundation was formed in 1954 to combat thalassemia. Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder affecting people of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, and Asian descent. Children born with the disorder must live a life of blood transfusions and difficult medical regimens. CAF supports medical research, provides information to doctors and support to patients and their families.
Johnny and I share a commitment to giving back to the communities we live in. His reputation for generosity is well known. We also started a donation-matching program, where NuVision Medicenters matched dollar-for-dollar any donations made by Nuvision Medicenters patients to the CAF.
Worldwide, there are an estimated 100,000 babies born every year with thalassemia. I hope that with our contributions, Nuvision Medicenters can help the CAF make a difference by advancing research and patient support.
